Inspired by a Master

Brassai was a master photographer who was born in Transylvania in 1899 with the birth name Gyula Halasz but changed it based off of his home town, Brasso.

Brassai was famous mostly for taking photos of Paris at night.

Picasso nicknamed him “The Terrorist” because of the explosions caused by the flash powder he used to give his pictures their characteristic lighting.

During his life, he created over 35,000 images. Most of his negatives, prints and contact sheets are today housed at the George Pompidou Centre in Paris.
