Inspired by a Master

  • Brassai was a master photographer who was born in Transylvania in 1899 with the birth name Gyula Halasz but changed it based off of his home town, Brasso.

  • Brassai was famous mostly for taking photos of Paris at night.

  • Picasso nicknamed him “The Terrorist” because of the explosions caused by the flash powder he used to give his pictures their characteristic lighting.

  • During his life, he created over 35,000 images. Most of his negatives, prints and contact sheets are today housed at the George Pompidou Centre in Paris.
